Hallsville Families & Community Members,
Hallsville’s Board of Education will host a second community forum on Thursday, December 5, at 6:30 p.m. in the secondary cafeteria. The goal of the forums is to hear from district leaders and Board of Education members on a potential no-tax-rate increase bond for the April 2025 ballot and seek community feedback on identified campus facility needs.
Based on the feedback provided at the first community meeting, identified community needs, and the expected funds available for capital improvements, architectural and engineering firm Klingner & Associates will develop updated conceptual designs of campus parking, relocated baseball field, and two-classroom primary addition, along with updated cost projections.

Congratulations to 5th grade teacher Mrs. Megan Jones on her recent nomination and selection for Hallsville Educator of the Year. Each year, the Hallsville Chamber of Commerce selects an educator to honor for their hard work and dedication to the Hallsville School District.
Mrs. Jones has been an educator for over 15 years and joined Hallsville last year as a 4th grade teacher. She made the unique decision to loop up with her class to 5th grade this year, further strengthening her connection with her students. One nomination shared, "While my son has had amazing teachers in Hallsville, Mrs. Jones has been the best teacher for him. She allows my son to express himself and helps him learn in ways that make the most sense for him. She goes beyond expectations not just for my son but for all her students."
Through her commitment to fostering a supportive and personalized learning environment, Mrs. Jones exemplifies our district's vision of improving lives through learning.
The Chamber will celebrate Mrs. Jones at the 2024 Annual Awards Banquet on Monday, December 2, at the Hungry Tiger. Reservations can be made and paid for in advance at Hallsville City Hall.

What is a favorite memory from school at Hallsville?
I fondly remember the Jingle Bell Shop and Channel 37 News, both from fourth grade. They gave me a chance to improve my people skills and get organized. I loved hands-on learning, which helped prepare me for my future jobs in the workforce, both in retail while in high school and college and then in broadcast production.
How did Hallsville Schools prepare you for life?
Going to school in a small town taught me not to burn bridges. My mom was a school secretary, and that gave me a good look at how the school system worked- sort of a backstage pass. I learned organization skills and a good work ethic from my parents and Hallsville. I also got to see the work ethic of my teachers up close.
What kind of post-high school training or schooling did you have?
During my junior and senior years of high school, I attended the Career Center and worked in broadcasting. I got interested in this field after job shadowing in middle school. I have always been interested in sports. I attended the University of Missouri-Columbia, studying journalism. I worked at KOMU for five years in the news and sports division while going to school.
What are you doing now?
I work at ESPN as a content producer for the show “Get Up.” I have been at ESPN for nine years. I have earned two Emmys for SportsCenter Production. While at Mizzou, I co-founded the local chapter of the national Association for Women in Sports Media. I was the national president of this group from 2019-2022. In 2019 I was diagnosed with Thyroid cancer, which I beat.
What part of Hallsville did you take with you?
I think being nice to people and Midwest hospitality. I learned about being a team player.
What advice would you give today’s students?
Kids should remember that anything they think they can do, they can, but they have to work hard. They always have to work and invest in themselves. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Be a team player, network, and help mentor others.

Hallsville Intermediate School and Hallsville Primary School are hosting a Hallsville spirit wear fundraiser! All proceeds will benefit students and staff at both schools.
The online store is open from now through Friday, November 29. Items for primary and intermediate students will be delivered to the school in early December and sent home with students.
Please put your child’s name, grade, and teacher in the comments when checking out online.
Families also have the option to pick up items at Shirtworx Ink in town! During checkout, use the “Ship My Order” button, and you will have the option to pick up. All items use the Hallsville logos and are not building-specific. We encourage our students to wear purple and gold on Fridays, and this is a great opportunity to stock up on some spirit wear! The federal government requires all states and local governments to have hazard mitigation plans approved by FEMA that are consistent with the Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000. Approved mitigation plans are required to maintain eligibility for certain types of federal Hazard Mitigation Assistance Grants.
A planning committee comprised of representatives from Boone County, the incorporated cities, and the public school districts is currently developing an update to the comprehensive Boone County Multi-jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan with a strategy to reduce the vulnerability of people and property in the planning area to the impacts of hazards and to remain eligible for mitigation funding programs from FEMA.
One of the key components of a hazard mitigation plan is public input during the planning process. The planning committee will be evaluating information on the hazards that impact each jurisdiction within Boone County. The committee is seeking your input on the hazards that will be evaluated as well as your opinions on the types of activities that should be considered to reduce future impacts. Your comments will be considered by your community’s representatives on the planning committee as the plan is developed. Please take a few moments to answer the following questions.
